Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have recently concluded a meaningful visit to Nigeria, where they focused on promoting mental health for soldiers and empowering young people.
The couple spent three days in the country, during which they highlighted the importance of taking care of one’s mental health. Their first stop was at the Lightway Academy, a school supported by their Archwell Foundation, where they stressed the crucial need to discuss mental health issues and not be afraid to express one’s feelings. According to The Daily Beast, the visit was an opportunity for the couple to advocate for mental health awareness, especially among young people.
Prince Harry got emotional while speaking about mental health. He mentioned that there is a stigma around the world about mental health because it’s invisible. “In some cases around the world, in more than you would believe, there is a stigma when it comes to mental health,” Harry said.
He pointed out that many people avoid talking about it because they can’t see it. He added, “But guess what? Every single person in this room, the youngest, the oldest, every single person has mental health. So, therefore, you have to look after yourself to be able to look after other people.” Harry emphasized, “There is no shame” in admitting when you’re having a bad day. Meghan, touched by his words, said, “You see why I’m married to him?” The couple has been married since 2016.
At a recent event, Meghan Markle shared details about her two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Archie is currently five years old, while Lilibet will turn three this coming June. Meghan recounted a heartwarming moment she had with Lilibet, when the little girl looked into her eyes and said, “I see me in you.” Meghan explained that she felt a deep connection with these words and that she saw a reflection of herself in all the students present at the event. She also mentioned that Archie had just celebrated his fifth birthday on May 6th.
Meghan also spoke about balancing motherhood and her career during a panel discussion. As reported by People Magazine, she explained that finding a balance is always changing and evolving. “What I think that means now is that that balance will always change for you. That balance, which seemed balanced 10 years ago, will shift,” she said. Meghan expressed her joy in being a mother, saying, “Being a mom has always been a dream of mine. And I’m so fortunate that we have two beautiful, healthy, very chatty, sweet children.” She added, “I love being a mom. I love being a mom.”
The couple is set to celebrate their sixth wedding anniversary on May 19. Their trip to Nigeria not only highlighted important issues but also allowed them to connect with the local community and share personal stories about their lives and family. This visit is another example of their ongoing commitment to making a positive impact around the world.
