Meghan Markle and Prince Harry started their lives in the United States with expectations of fortune and fame. But after stepping down from their royal family duties and settling in a California mansion, the couple discovered that their fame consisted of becoming the butt of Internet jokes. (For instance, have you heard the one about the Duchess who adopted a talk show host’s chicken for publicity?)
As for fortune, Meghan and Harry lost their Spotify deal. And now, as revealed below, the Duchess of Sussex and Duke of Sussex face what an expert called a “ticking time bomb” with their finances.
Netflix Deal Will End Soon
For months, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have boasted about their Netflix deal. But as the deal gets closer to the end, the Duchess of Sussex and Duke of Sussex face a crisis with their finances. And a royal expert described the situation as a “ticking time bomb” via the Sun.
Because Meghan and Harry at first viewed their Netflix deal as the way to fulfill their Hollywood dreams, the couple focused on that. However, with only a year before their Netflix contract ends, the Duchess and Duke of Sussex thus far have received half of their contract, estimated at £78 million.
And Meghan and Harry must produce successful content by the end of 2025 to receive the rest of the money. As a result, Golden Globes host Jo Koy mocked the couple recently for “being paid millions by Netflix for doing nothing.”
Meghan Markle Could Lose Hollywood Dreams
And royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams warned that Meghan and Harry face the loss of all they wanted if they fail to produce before the end of the contract. “You know that your influence is failing is when people start laughing at you,” he pointed out.
And the royal expert noted that Meghan and Harry “have done absolutely nothing for Netflix. If you simply trash your family, which is the only time it does seem to mean that you get megabucks, and do nothing else, then you must expect people not to take you seriously.”
As a result, Richard warned that the Duchess and Duke of Sussex face a “ticking time bomb” in terms of producing something for Netflix. “If they lost that, they really would be losers in every sense,” he added.
And reflecting on how Meghan and Harry became dubbed Hollywood’s biggest losers, he noted that the Netflix deal could prove or disprove that label.
For instance, Meghan and Harry could focus on something different, such as a romantic comedy, rather than keep rehashing their complaints about the royal family.
And he pointed to just how badly Meghan and Harry have failed, recalling when the couple made Time magazine’s list of the world’s top 100 individuals. “It doesn’t seem that way at all at the moment. In fact, it’s going quite the reverse way,” he noted.
Tell us what you think. Some critics feel that the Duchess and Duke of Sussex have developed a reputation for over-promising and under-delivering. What do you believe? And after you share your views, check back on our site for more royal family news.
