King Charles secretly wrote letters to Meghan Markle after her interview with Oprah Winfrey. And a new report reveals that Charles specifically began his correspondence with the Duchess of Sussex after hearing Meghan drop a bombshell about her son’s skin color.
Find out what King Charles shared with Meghan in their secret correspondence. And keep reading to learn how the Duchess of Sussex responded.
King Charles Pens Letters To Meghan Markle
In 2021, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sat down with Oprah Winfrey for an interview that changed everything. And in some ways, the bombshells that the couple dropped burned their bridges with the royal family.
But one particularly shocking statement from Meghan involved her claim that the royal family had questioned the color of her son’s skin prior to Archie’s birth. And now Omid Scobie’s new book offers insights about how King Charles reacted via E News.
After King Charles heard Meghan claim that the royal family expressed concern about her then-unborn baby’s skin color, he wrote a letter to the Duchess of Sussex. And in that first document, Charles shared his sorrow over two issues.
First, the King felt regretful that she and Harry had made the decision to expose so many private issues about the royal family. And second, Charles expressed his belief that any comments about skin color didn’t stem from “ill will” or “casual prejudice.”
Meghan Markle Reacts To King Charles
However, the Duchess of Sussex then responded. And she explained her view that talking about her baby’s skin color represented a “lingering unconscious bias and ignorance.” As a result, Meghan believed that the royal family should make an effort to understand that bias and ignorance.
And King Charles did continue the correspondence respectfully. However, the two did not resolve the issue. But both Charles and Meghan felt that each had heard the other’s views. However, prior to Queen Elizabeth’s death, Buckingham Palace released a statement. Harry had told Oprah that neither Queen Elizabeth nor Prince Philip asked about his son’s skin color.
But the statement from Buckingham Palace read, “The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.”
And Meghan’s remaining feelings about alleged racism in the royal family reportedly contributed to her decision to boycott King Charles’ coronation. However, the Duchess of Sussex does not dwell on the racism conversation at this point in her life, said a rep for Meghan.
“The Duchess of Sussex is going about her life in the present, not thinking about correspondence from two years ago related to conversations from four years ago,” her spokesperson shared. And the rep added, “Any suggestion otherwise is false and frankly ridiculous.”
