The Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince William and Kate Middleton, are said to view the possibility of spending Christmas with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as “total humiliation”, it has been claimed.
According to a report by Mirror, the Duke and Duchess of Suss*x, who have been living in California since stepping back from their royal duties in 2020, are reported to be keen to build bridges with King Charles III and the British Royal Family, with them even happy to accept an invitation to Sandringham this Christmas, as per various reports.
However, according to sources close to the royal family, the invitation is unlikely to come anytime soon, as the King and his team “were never going to be bounced into inviting Harry and Meghan”. They added that “when an invite does come, it will be carefully thought through and it will be on his terms”.
The rift between the brothers, which was exacerbated by Harry and Meghan’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, has not been healed despite some attempts at reconciliation. In the interview, Harry and Meghan accused the royal family of racism, neglect and lack of support, and Harry revealed that his relationship with William was “space” at the time.
A friend of the Prince of Wales has revealed that William and Kate would find spending the festive period with Harry and Meghan “total humiliation”. Also speaking to The Daily Beast, William’s pal said: “Would you want to sit down for a slap-up Christmas lunch with someone who had basically called you an asshole in public?”
The friend also claimed that William was “furious” with Harry for “blindsiding” him with the announcement of his memoir, which is due to be published in late 2022. The book is expected to reveal more details about Harry’s life as a royal and his decision to leave the UK.
The source said: “William was blindsided by Harry’s book announcement and felt it was a deliberate attempt to upstage him and Kate’s tour of Scotland. He thinks Harry is being selfish and reckless and is putting his own agenda ahead of the Queen’s.”
The friend added that William and Kate are “very protective” of their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, and do not want them to be exposed to any “drama” or “tension” from Harry and Meghan.
The source said: “They want their kids to have a normal and happy childhood, and they don’t need Harry and Meghan stirring up trouble and making headlines. They have enough on their plate with their own work and charities, and they don’t need any more distractions or drama.”
The friend concluded that William and Kate are “not interested” in spending Christmas with Harry and Meghan, and that they would rather focus on their own family and the King.
The source said: “They are not interested in playing happy families with Harry and Meghan. They have their own lives and their own priorities, and they are loyal to their father and the King. They will do what is expected of them, but they will not pretend that everything is fine when it is not.”
