Meghan Markle has reportedly ruled out any possibility of returning to the UK, even if her husband Prince Harry decides to buy a property in his home country.
According to a report by Express, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who moved to California in 2020 after stepping back from royal duties, have not been seen together in Britain since the funeral of Prince Philip in April.
According to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, Meghan has no intention of relocating to the UK, nor bringing their two children, Archie and Lilibet, for frequent visits. He told Express.co.uk³ that Harry respects Meghan’s decision, even if it means being away from her and the kids when he travels to Britain for various engagements.
Fitzwilliams also dismissed the rumours that Harry is looking for a permanent base in the UK, saying that he has serious security concerns and still has a pending case against the Home Office regarding this issue.
He added that Harry would need a secure arrangement, probably with the royal family, to have a place to stay when he visits Britain.
Harry and Meghan previously used Frogmore Cottage as their UK home, which was given to them by the Queen after their wedding in 2018. However, they were asked by Prince Charles to leave the property after their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, in which they made several allegations against the royal family.
Meghan recently revealed that she had packed up their belongings at Frogmore Cottage during their visit to the UK in June, as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. She told The Cut⁵ that it was surreal to go back to the home, which they only lived in for a few months before making their decision to leave the royal fold.
Meghan also hinted that she and Harry are happy with their life in Montecito, where they have bought a £11 million mansion and signed lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify. She said that they are enjoying their freedom and privacy, as well as being able to raise their children in a more diverse and inclusive environment.
Harry, on the other hand, has made several trips to the UK this year, for various reasons. He attended his grandfather’s funeral in April, unveiled a statue of his mother Princess Diana in July, and appeared at the WellChild Awards in September. He is also expected to return next year for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the Invictus Games.
However, it is unclear whether Meghan will join him on any of these occasions, or whether she will ever set foot in Britain again. Some royal experts have suggested that she may face a backlash from the public and the media if she does, given the strained relations between her and the royal family.
