“Bethany Gambardella, a 39-year-old woman, currently resides in the city of Austin, located in the state of Texas. Recently, she shared a photo on social media that left all viewers shocked and, at the same time, served as an important warning.
It all started when Bethany discovered a darker spot on her skin while she was pregnant with her youngest daughter . Initially, she ignored it, attributing the appearance to hormonal changes associated with pregnancy. However, as time went by, she finally decided to seek guidance from a dermatologist.
Surprisingly, the doctor assured her that there was no cause for concern. With that information in mind, Bethany continued with her life as usual, paying little attention to the spot in question. However, after 18 months since the initial consultation, things worsened. A wart appeared in the area of the spot, and concerned, Bethany decided to undergo a biopsy.
The result was a true shock; she was diagnosed with desmoplastic melanoma, a particularly aggressive form of skin cancer. The doctors had to remove the wart through surgery. Unfortunately, the procedure was carried out too late, as the cancer had already spread to Bethany’s bones and lymph nodes.
To fight the disease, she started radiation therapy. By the end of the process, Bethany had lost around 18 kilograms due to difficulties in eating, as the throat pain made this task extremely challenging. Additionally, Bethany shared that her mother also received the melanoma diagnosis in the same age range. However, this experience encouraged Bethany to take care of herself and seek treatment as soon as possible.
Fortunately, after completing her treatment and being declared disease-free, Bethany now dedicates herself to encouraging others to take care of their skin health, which is, after all, the largest organ of the human body. She shares her story on social media to alert friends and family about the importance of early detection of skin cancer.
