A shocking and horrifying event has deeply affected the community of Port Jefferson Station. A man named Felix Martinez, aged 46, has been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder following a tragic incident.
It is alleged that he brutally attacked another resident, Richard Shields, aged 56, resulting in grave consequences. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced the charges, stressing the seriousness of the situation. The incident took place in front of their shared house, and Shields sadly lost his life five days after the assault.
The assault occurred on August 4, 2023, around noon, as per investigators. Martinez reportedly confronted Shields outside their home, and a neighbor’s surveillance camera captured the disturbing encounter, providing vital evidence.
The footage shows Shields sitting in front of their house when Martinez approached. Over the next 15 minutes, Martinez is believed to have carried out a brutal attack involving hitting, choking, stomping, and striking Shields with a mop bucket.
In a shocking turn of events, investigators claim that towards the end of the assault, Martinez removed Shields’ clothing and committed a degrading act by urinating on him while he was unconscious on the ground. When police arrived, Martinez was smoking a cigar in front of the house, while Shields lay unconscious nearby. Martinez was taken into custody, and Shields was rushed to the hospital.
Tragically, Shields passed away due to the injuries on August 9, 2023.
Martinez appeared before Suffolk County Supreme Court Justice John B. Collins for the indictment charges. He has been ordered to remain in custody without the option for bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 22. If found guilty of the main charge, Martinez could face a sentence ranging from 25 years to life imprisonment.
