A burglar who broke into an old person’s house in Kings Norton has been given a six-year prison sentence. Mark Jacobs, a 20-year-old from Courtway Avenue, Birmingham, admitted to the serious crime of burglary with violence at Birmingham Crown Court on Tuesday (25 July).
The break-in happened at about 12:30 am on 21 September last year when Jacobs and around five other men forcefully entered the home of a man in his 70s. They had weapons with them and pushed the old man out of the way, demanding money. But the man’s son was also inside the house and bravely confronted the burglars.
In a brave act of defending his family, the son fought with the burglars, making them run away from the house. During the struggle, he got hurt on his head and hands and had to get medical treatment. Thankfully, he is getting better now.
The police looked into the case very carefully, collecting evidence like CCTV footage from nearby places. Two officers from the neighborhood identified Mark Jacobs from the footage, making the case against him stronger. They also checked Jacobs’ mobile phone records, which showed that he was at the place of the burglary when it happened.
Because of all the strong evidence against him, Mark Jacobs pleaded guilty to the charge of burglary with violence. The judge gave him a prison sentence of six years as punishment for his terrible actions.
