“Somebody said he was hit with an axe,” a voice can be heard saying before a white car quickly drives by and people hide to protect themselves. This is one of the many shocking videos going around after a violent fight on Alum Rock Road, which the police are calling a serious problem. It happened today, June 27, in broad daylight near the junction of Pelham Road.
Another video, which is too violent to share, shows a red van driving onto the sidewalk and trying to hit a group of fighting men. It’s hard to hear what the armed groups are saying, but one man can be heard telling his enemy to go back into their car.
Then, someone is tackled to the ground, and they are hit repeatedly. One of the attackers uses a pole and another weapon to hit the person.
People watch with disgust as the group continues fighting until the video ends. Thankfully, nobody was seriously injured in the fight, but the police confirmed that four people were hurt just before 1 pm.
The police detectives mentioned that they will increase patrols in the area after this violent incident on one of Birmingham’s busiest streets. There was another incident on Burney Lane outside Washwood Heath Academy, where the police were seen investigating a car.
A statement from the police said, “We are currently at Alum Rock Road near the junction of Pelham Road investigating a fight involving several people with weapons at around 12:40 pm. We understand that four men were injured, but their lives are not in danger. The road has been closed in both directions while we continue our investigation. Our neighborhood teams are also doing extra patrols to reassure people in the area.”
The police responded quickly to the situation. There were many police officers present, focusing on a row of shops that includes a phone shop and hairdressers.
Uniformed officers were seen searching carefully through a bush near a crashed Volkswagen Golf and nearby buildings. Detectives went door to door and talked to different businesses along the road.
Someone overheard a person offering their video footage of the incident. The police will likely have a lot of evidence to go through.
If anyone has footage of the incident, they are asked to contact the police through the live chat on their website or call 101 and provide the reference number 2240 of June 27.
